What is a credit check?

A credit check is a service that tells you what your credit score is. Some services are totally free, and some charge you money but give you extra information or help.

Your credit score is a number rating between 300 and 850 that tells lenders how likely you are to pay back the money they lend you. It is based off your entire history of taking out loans and paying them back. There are three major credit scoring bureaus in the United States that are responsible for gathering information and assigning you a credit score: Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax. The most commonly used type of score is a FICO score, but other companies offer similar scores.

Your credit report is simply the record of the information these companies gather: it contains all your credit history information these companies use to compile your credit score.

Why check your credit?

Checking your credit score is easy with Crediverso. If you look below, you will see all the top offers from credit check companies throughout the country. Crediverso tells you which offers are free, which cost money, and which come with extra services. Some services only show you your credit score, and some services give you your entire credit report. Depending on what you are using it for, you might only need to know your credit score.

There are also different types of credit scores. The most common is called a FICO score, but many lenders are also okay with seeing a VantageScore.

How to check your credit?

In simple terms, a higher credit score lets you do more things. Before you can rent an apartment, a landlord will look at your credit score. If you have a low credit score, you might need to pay several months of rent as a deposit. The same thing will happen when you try to pay for electricity or gas. Utilities companies will look at your credit score, and if it’s too low, they will also make you pay a deposit. With a high credit score, you can avoid this.

A higher credit score also means you can get a bigger loan with less interest. If you are trying to buy a car, a higher credit score means you can get a larger auto loan, and pay less interest each month. This can be the difference of hundreds of dollars every month. You might also get lower car insurance rates.

If you are trying to buy a house, a higher credit score means you can get a larger mortgage, and pay less interest every year. This can be the difference of $100,000 or more over the course of your mortgage.
